COUNCILOR Louie John Bonguyan urged developers to turn over the water supply management to the Davao City Water District (DCWD) to best serve homeowners.
Bonguyan, the committee on energy and water chair, advised developers to comply with the standards set by the water utility for a smoother transaction.
Effective Jan. 1, DCWD lifted the suspension on new service connection applications and announced they are now catering to individual, residential, and subdivisions.
“There are some developers who attempted to transfer to DCWD from their own water system, pero kailangan pa man gud na og inspection coming from DCWD if their pipe is standard the same with DCWD,” Bonguyan said during the Aprubado sa Konseho on Feb. 13.
“If the pipes of the existing subdivision are not compliant with the standards, there is a need for repiping which is costly,” he added.
DCWD has started accepting applications from all areas in Panacan WSS (Sasa, Panacan, Ilang, Tibungco, Bunawan, and Lasang); Cabantian WSS (Cabantian, Communal, and Indangan); and most of Dumoy WSS (Sasa, Pampanga, Lanang, Bajada, Buhangin, Indangan, Mandug, Agdao and Downtown proper).
These were the areas they previously discouraged accepting applications due to limitations of water supply. The lifting of the suspension is attributed to the now operational bulk water supply project of Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc.
Bonguyan said subdivisions that opt to establish their own water system to provide to their homeowners will still be allowed as long as they have secured permits for extraction, distribution, and commercialization of the water from the National Water Resources Board.
Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, DCWD spokesperson, said during the 20th city council’s first regular session on Jan. 9 that developers still have to submit their letter of intent to turnover to DCWD.
“One of the proactive measures since last year was to encourage them to submit their intent so we can do the evaluation and finalize the turnover and start supplying water to their subdivisions,” she said.
In terms of high-rise structures in the city, the majority of the development is located in the urban area, hence the main lines are ready. While for subdivisions, there are complementary pipelines for the majority of the applications.
