THE DEPARTMENT of Education XI recognized the teachers who served as members of the electoral boards (EBs) for their service during the May 12 National and Local elections.
In an interview at the Sangguniang Panlungsod during the canvassing on Monday, DepEd XI spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said the teachers have performed to the best of their abilities.
“We would like to honor them because the sacrifices that they exerted are actually way beyond expectations,” Atillo said.
He shared that some of the teachers went to the polling precincts as early as 1 a.m. to situate the early voting hours, which started at 5 a.m.
“Our heartfelt thanks to our teaching and non-teaching personnel who are part of the mid-year elections, thank you for being our heroes kay di basta basta padaganon ang elections sa atong nasud,” he added.
Atillo said that the EBs are subject to harassment by the voters, especially when there are glitches in the automated counting machines and overvoting concerns. However, the EBs just informed the voters that the glitches are beyond the teachers’ control.
“Our EBs naman are experienced, so they are well aware of how to wrestle concerns inside the polling area, but our teachers were patiently responding to all of these,” he said.
Atillo said it did not reach the point to call a police officer to pacify a situation as far as the region is concerned.
“Wala kaayoy major concerns affecting the conduct of the election, maong peacefully nahimo sa mga teachers ang ilahang trabaho para ani nga election,”
The Commission on Elections was also present to assist with minor and major concerns in polling centers.
About 12,400 personnel comprise 11,132 members of the Electoral Boards, 1,136 DepEd Supervising Officials, and 143 members of the Board of Canvassers who served during the election day in the whole region.
