THE DEPARTMENT of Education (Deped) announced on Monday a new policy that allows a 30-day flexible and uninterrupted leave between April 16 to June 1 for teachers.
Deped Order No. 9 released on Monday, April 7, 2025, public school teachers may avail of the vacation days either on a continuous or staggered basis within the period.
“The 30 days of this break shall be designated as a period for teachers and learners to relax and enjoy well-deserved personal time without school-related commitments,” the order stated.
Teachers are required to submit their intent or options for the break before April 16, based on the schedule of summer programs issued by the department.
Alternative Learning System teachers and Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education teachers are also covered by the 30-day break.
The order also stated that there would be no Performance Management Evaluation System (PMES)-related activities for teachers during the break.
Accomplishment and submission of the Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form may be done outside the declared vacation, up to the end of the first month following the opening of classes for SY 25-26.
The school heads should ensure training and seminars are conducted outside the declared break of teachers, but teachers may opt to attend training and seminars voluntarily.
School heads, on the other hand, are excluded from the break to ensure continuous and effective management of schools, but they are entitled to vacation and sick leave credits during the period.
Teachers who participated in other activities within the 60-day break are entitled to vacation service credits equivalent to the actual days of rendered service.
Meanwhile, learners who are required to attend mandatory summer programs will have their vacation days outside the May 8 to June 6 period.
SY 2024-2025 started on July 29, 2024, and will end on April 15, while the next school year will begin on June 16 and will end on March 31, 2026.
