AS THE Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet 2024 nears, the Department of Education (DepEd) XI and the City Sports Development Division (CSDD) are all set to welcome more than 7,000 delegates from various schools all over Davao Region.
The DAVRAA Meet will take place on April 1-7, 2024, with playing venues all within Davao City except for swimming, which takes place in Davao del Norte.
During the iSpeak forum on March 26, Reynante Solitario, DepEd-Davao City School Division superintendent, said different competing schools will occupy 11 school buildings near the sports complex area.
“These schools are carefully chosen to make sure that we can cater to hundreds of delegates coming from the different divisions,” Solitario said.
Solitario said the competition already prepared the needs of athletes before, during, and after the competition, such as shower rooms, bedding, and potable water, which has already been examined by the Davao City Water District.
The following building schools are Mintal Elementary School (ES) and Mintal Comprehensive High School for Davao City contingents, Imelda ES and Sto. Niño NHS for Digos City; Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. ES for Island Garden City of Samal contingents; Bolton ES and Magallanes ES for Mati City; Daniel R. Aguinaldo NHS for Panabo City delegates; Tugbok Central ES and Tugbok NHS for Tagum City contingents; Maa Central ES for Davao del Norte; Davao City NHS for Davao del Sur; Maa NHS for Davao Occidental; Catalunan Pequeño ES and NHS for Davao de Oro contingents; Sta. Ana Central ES for Davao Oriental; and prepared A. Mabini NHS and Davao City Special NHS for technical officials and tournament managers.
“This is also an advantage for every delegate because they will not spend much time traveling and even spend money for transportation needs. At least they are already close to the playing venues,” he added.
He noted that the identified building schools will shift to blended learning sessions as advised.
Mikey Aportadera, CSDD chief, stressed that they will be in close monitoring with CDRRMO for the heat index monitoring and the City Health Office if any harm occurs.
“We remind all the athletes and even spectators themselves to hydrate properly. I’m not sure how the outcome of the heat indexes in the next week will do, but we’re closely monitoring it with the help of CDRRMO,” Aportadera said.
He said if the weather condition compromises the health and safety of delegates, the committee would try to suspend the competition.
Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagaysay said they will deploy 14,000 security personnel to secure the respective delegates and members.
The DAVRAA Meet 2024 will be open on April 1 at UP-Mindanao Sports Complex, where the 24 playing venues post on their respective Facebook page.
