DENR XI announces three-month closure of Mt. Apo

THE DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XI announced the annual three-month closure of the Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) to ensure the preservation of ecosystems and remaining wildlife species in the area.

Through its advisory posted on June 5, the off-season commences from June 1 to August 31.

“The entire season prohibits all trekking and camping activities at all open trails in the natural park, giving time for the sacred mountain to recuperate and allow wildlife to roam their natural habitats without anthropogenic intervention,” the statement reads.

DENR XI said the ongoing conservation efforts towards the protected area will help MANP’s declaration as a UNESCO Global Geopark, considering its cultural and ecological importance.

The MANP’s Protected Area Management started practicing the June to August closure in 2022, pursuant to MANP-PAMB En Banc Resolution No. 06, series of 2021.
