Delivery rider killed after truck runs over him

A DELIVERY rider was killed after he was run over by a truck at Km.17, Barangay Ilang, Bunawan District around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Meanwhile, six individuals were also injured in another road crash in Marilog District on the same day.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified him as Leopoldo Malic Cabudlay Jr., 27, married, and a resident of Marieta Village, Barangay Tibungco. 

According to the report, Cabudlay was driving his Rusi motorcycle heading south when the Freightliner, driven by Melchor Brosas, 38, married, and a resident of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, hit him from behind. 

Cabudlay fell and was run over by the truck.

The barangay rescue team brought the body to Rivera Funeral Homes in Licanan, Lasang, while the truck driver and involved vehicles were temporarily held at the Bunawan Police Station. He will face a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

On the same day, a Mitsubishi van and Mitsubishi Xpander collided at Sitio Balite, Barangay Marilog, Marilog District, around 6:40 a.m.

Police identified the van driver as Taylaran Marcelino Jr., 42, a resident of Rosario Village, Lagao, General Santos City, while Xpander driver was driven by Betonio Rudenyl Resus, married, a resident of Bontong Sta. Ana, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

The four passengers from both vehicles were Penchie Mae A Betonio, 44, married; Rab A Betonio,14; Jaime Mejias, 40, married; and Michelle Betonio, 38, married, all residents of Bontong Sta. Ana.

The vehicles were traveling on the Davao-Bukidnon National Highway in opposite directions when the Resus reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. As a result, he encroached on the lane of the truck driver causing the crash. 

Fortunately, nobody died in the incident. All injured passengers were transported to the hospital.
