Delinquent employers told: Avail of condonation program

The Social Security System (SSS)-Southern Mindanao Division 1 has urged the 3,283 delinquent employers in the city to avail of Contribution Penalty Condonation Program (CBCP) to avoid criminal liabilities once the program lapses.

Rizalito Alberto de Leon, head of the division, said yesterday that delinquent employers have until September 6 to settle the unpaid premiums of their employees. After that, criminal charges will be filed for violating SSS Act of 2018 as non-remittance can be considered as fraud.

The law, signed last February and took effect in March, specifically fines employers P5,000 to P20,000 or jailed for at least six years for their failure to pay the premiums of their employees.

De Leon said there were around 10,000 registered employers of SSS in Davao City, 70% of which have settled their obligations.

“SSS is true to its mandate. Kapag hindi po kayo nakapagbayad ng contribution ninyo, the employees will suffer and then if the employees file complaints with us, surely the SSS will go after these delinquent employers,” he said.

He added that it is good that companies firms are paying in full their total unsettled remittances, but those that availed of installment and then eventually forgot their obligations that is why they immediately filed charges against them.

As of June 30, SSS already filed cases to 78 delinquent employers in the city for non-remittance.
