A TOTAL of P21.4 billion in capital expenditure will be required by the Davao City Water District (DCWD) to further strengthen its services and commitment to providing quality water for its customers.
The agency has lined up improvement projects to build four storage facilities, 36 production wells, 57 pipeline projects measuring 171 km in length, and expand the water provision reach to neighboring municipalities and cities.
Within the P21.4 billion, P11.9 billion is allocated for the expansion of service coverage, P3.8 billion for improving water supply, and P5.8 billion for more efficient use of resources.
DCWD’s current coverage is at 370,000 cubic meters per day (CMD) serving 1,288,060 Davaoeños in 117 barangays. The utility firm’s projected water demand in 2033 will be at 606,00 CMD to reach 2,306,190 clients in 143 barangays
The available water supply is at around 709,000 CMD, with 367,000 CMD of groundwater (52%) and 342,000 CMD of surface water (48%).
DCWD general manager Mildred Aviles said customers had been accessing abundant, reliable, affordable, and safe water supply in Davao City’s water services—95% of them enjoy 24/7 availability while the remaining 5% received an estimated 12-18 hours per day.
“The primary goal is to guarantee that the water we provide meets the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water, the benchmark for drinking water safety in the country,” Aviles said during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas.
