DAVAO City Water District (DCWD) customers are advised to store water in preparation for possible low water pressure to no water on April 21.
DCWD issued the advisory on its social media page on Sunday, April 14 after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a weather forecast.
“PAGASA has released a weather forecast of heavy/prolonged rainfall that may result in the reduced flow or temporary stop distribution of the bulk water supply due to high turbidity of the Tamugan River,” the advisory reads.
Turbidity shows the amount of solids and sediments present in the body of water. High turbidity means there is a high amount of sediments in the river, which can affect the water quality and interfere with the water treatment processes.
In the meantime, DCWD will be operating its groundwater sources, however, customers are advised to expect low water pressure to no water, especially during peak hours of water usage, if the high turbidity level persists.
The affected areas are those served by Dumoy Water Supply System (WSS), Riverside WSS, Tugbok WSS, Calinan WSS, Cabantian WSS, and Panacan WSS.
To recall, prolonged heavy rains brought by the shear line and the trough of the low-pressure area on January 31-February 3 affected the supply of the bulk water project.
May Che Capili, Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. external relations officer said Apo Agua’s water treatment plant is designed to treat a certain level of turbidity, when it is above the limit, the plant will temporarily stop production.
When the plant is shut off, the DCWD will fully blast its groundwater sources, ensuring affected customers will be supplied within 24 hours.
