THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) is stepping up monitoring of hotels, inns, and similar establishments ahead of Valentine’s Day to prevent minors from being present in these locations, which is strictly prohibited.
Acting city director, Col. Hansel M. Marantan, intensified efforts for the Friday, February 14 Valentine’s celebration, emphasizing the police’s commitment to protecting children.
The DCPO’s initiative focuses on strict enforcement of Republic Act 7610, the “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.”
This law prohibits the exploitation and facilitation of minors in such establishments.
“We are intensifying our monitoring… to safeguard the welfare of our youth and ensure the strict enforcement of RA 7610,” stated PCol. Marantan.
The police warned that individuals found violating the law, including those who exploit or facilitate the presence of minors, will face legal consequences.
Establishments that allow minors to check in without proper guardianship or valid reasons will also be held accountable.
The DCPO is urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving minors in hotels, inns, and similar venues. Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest police station for immediate action.
Marantan also appealed to parents and guardians to closely supervise their children’s activities and whereabouts to prevent them from being placed in vulnerable situations. “Protecting the youth is a shared responsibility,” he said, stressing the importance of community collaboration.
The DCPO reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order and ensuring the diligent enforcement of laws protecting minors.
Moreover, they encouraged anyone with concerns to contact the nearest police station or reach out to the DCPO through their official communication channels.
