Abusive tricycle drivers warned vs. overcharging

Mayor Sara Duterte has warned abusive tricycle drivers against overcharging their passengers.

“Follow rules, or you will no longer be allowed to operate,” she said in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday.

She said that numerous complaints have reached her office, pointing out those tricycle drivers are taking advantage of the suspension of public transportation. Passengers have no choice but to give in rather than walk.

“This serves as a warning to all tricycle drivers. If there will be persistent complaints over an overcharged fare then we can halt your operations,” she said.

Under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) guideline, tricycles have been allowed to ply their route because the public mass transport has been suspended since April 4, 2020. This is to consider residents going to grocery stores and wet markets who do not own private cars.

However, drivers are directed to follow the guidelines in the executive order by allowing only one passenger in the front and one at the back.

“If they don’t want to stop operating, it’s either they follow the standard fare or they will have nothing at all,” she said.

Residents who experience overcharging from abusive tricycle drivers may report to the City Transport and Traffic Management Office at (082) 298-3602 or the following numbers: 0947 264 9337, 0930 161 7077, 0943 446 9107 and 0908 925 4422.
