DCPO reshuffle not connected to Quiboloy manhunt: PNP chief

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Director General Rommel Francisco Marbil said the recent reshuffling of police officials in Davao City was unrelated to the ongoing manhunt for wanted Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his co-accused.

Marbil said the arrest of one of the wanted individuals, Paulene Canada, was due to the reward money offered and not because of the reshuffling of their officers in Davao.

He acknowledged the difficulty of finding someone evading the law, especially since Canada was arrested only about two meters away from a police station.

However, Marbil said the reward money and wanted posters have been instrumental in generating tips from the public.

It is worth noting that since May, there have been successive reshuffles of high-ranking officials in the Davao City Police Office, culminating in the reshuffling of three officials in just one day.

Also, Police Regional Office XI director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre clarified that the recent series of police chief reshuffles were routine organizational changes.

When questioned about the timing of the reshuffles and their potential impact on the arrest, Torre firmly stated, “I’m very sure there’s nothing like that in the police force.”

He attributed the arrest to a tip received by the authorities, emphasizing the elusive nature of wanted individuals.

Torre further explained that the announcement of a reward and its publication in various media platforms led to a significant increase in information shared by the public. He expressed confidence that the remaining wanted individuals would be apprehended soon, stating, “It won’t be long now.”

When asked about information regarding other wanted individuals, Torre confirmed that they were actively pursuing leads and working tirelessly to apprehend them.
