THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) revealed that rape cases declined for the five months of the year compared to the same period in 2023.
DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon said they recorded 41 cases from January to May this year, down from the 62 incidents for the same period last year.
The victims’ ages ranged from 11-17 years old and most of them occurred indoors, which meant the perpetrators mostly knew the victims.
“Sa mga eight focused crimes sa Davao City Police Office na recorded, number one atong rape cases for five months,” Tuazon stated on AFP-PNP Press Corps on Wednesday, July 24.
“Pero nibaba man siya karon compared last year,” Tuazon added.
The DCPO spokesperson said they anticipate the case to rise considering there are still five months before 2024 ends.
However, they hoped the Oplan Kilos program, which raises awareness about rape and advocates for more community participation, would curb the cases.
