DCPO: 55 firearms seized, over 7,500 Comelec checkpoints conducted in Davao City

AUTHORITIES in Davao Region conducted over 7,550 checkpoints between January 12 and May 15, 2025, in a bid to ensure a safe and orderly environment for the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).

The operations resulted in numerous arrests and the confiscation of firearms and other deadly weapons.

The Davao City Police Office report highlighted their extensive efforts, along with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in establishing and conducting checkpoints across the region. 

A significant portion of these operations were DCPO-established checkpoints, totaling 5,110, with a deployment of 41,054 police personnel. Random spot checkpoints and joint AFP/PNP/Comelec checkpoints were also conducted, contributing to the overall total.

These operations led to 52 positive operations, resulting in the arrest of 69 individuals for various violations.

 Authorities also recovered or confiscated 55 firearms, 2 firearm replicas, and 1 deadly weapon. Additionally, 229 firearms were surrendered or deposited, along with 12 explosives.

Captain Hazel  Caballero, the spokesperson of DCPO, said it underscored the security forces’ commitment to maintain peace and order during the election period. 

The high number of checkpoints and the resulting confiscations demonstrate a proactive approach to preventing violence and ensuring a safe environment for voters.

The DCPO reiterated its dedication to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring the safety of all residents in the Davao Region.
