DCNHS identified as the new temporary site for city college

The City College of Davao will temporarily be located at the new building of the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) along Torres Street.

Prior to this, the Alternative Learning System along Pelayo Street was identified as the initial location of the City College.

Councilor Pilar Braga, chairperson of the committee on education, science and education, culture and arts, said the location will only be temporary as the technical working team scouts for a permanent site for the City College.

The councilor also said they are still preparing the requirements to be submitted to the Commission on Higher Education, which will give the permit for the operations of the city-funded college.

The college is set to operate around August of this year and they are expecting around 1,000 students to enroll.

The City College of Davao will be offering six pilot courses. These are the Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNEd), Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Arts in English, and Bachelor of Arts in Filipino.

As for the budget, it was agreed by the council that it will be sourced from the Supplemental Budget 1. However, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said she is also looking for more sustainable funding source to support her pet project.

Last month, the mayor revealed that they need about P100 million to fund the City College, P50 million of which would be needed for the construction alone. Yvette Balayon/UM Intern
