The Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP), the premier bulk water supplier for Davao City, proudly concludes 2024 with remarkable achievements in sustainable water management and community empowerment. These milestones strengthen water security and environmental sustainability.
DCBWSP is a groundbreaking initiative by the Davao City Water District to harness Tamugan River as an additional water source for the growing needs of Davaoeños. The Project combines cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices. Powered by renewable hydroelectric energy, the facility minimizes its environmental footprint, achieving significant reduction in carbon emissions. It’s also a state-of-the-art water treatment facility and eco-engineered pipelines, the project now delivers safe and reliable water to thousands of households, supplying 300 million liters daily and benefiting over one million Davaoeños.
Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives
Improved water access has enhanced health, productivity, and quality of life for many. A carenderia worker in Cabantian shared her experience, “Dako na syag improvement karon sa among area labi na sa amo sa Cabantian kay grabe gyud mi ka nihit diha ug tubig sauna karon kay okay na among tubig. Sauna dapat mi magpundo, magpaabot pa mig ulan kay usahay wala mi tubig, wala mi agas karon kay pasalamat gyud kog dako kay okay na among tubig (There has been a big improvement in our area, especially here in Cabantian, where we used to experience water interruptions. Before, we had to store water and even wait for rain because sometimes we had no water at all, no flow from our taps. But now, I’m really thankful because our water supply is already okay).”
Driving Progress Through Collaboration
Strong partnerships with the Davao City Water District (DCWD), local governments, and host barangays have been instrumental in the success of the project. These collaborations exemplify public-private synergy, ensuring seamless implementation across different communities we served. “This partnership demonstrates how collaboration drives transformative progress,” said Ronnie Lim, General Manager of Apo Agua.
A Vision Aligned with the Global Sustainability Goals
In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Apo Agua and DCWD deepened its community engagement through community-based water systems solutions, barangay water system association (BAWASA) organizing and capacity building, livelihood training, and Panigan-Tamugan watershed conservation programs in 2024. These efforts empower communities to be resilient amid evolving challenges.
Building for 2025 and Beyond
Looking ahead, DCBWSP will optimize operational efficiencies and integrate advanced technologies for water management, and align further with global sustainability standards. These innovations will enhance efficiency while maintaining environmental stewardship.
The DCBWSP stands as a testament to innovation, inclusive, and sustainable water solutions. By transforming infrastructure, forging partnerships, and empowering communities, DCBWSP reaffirms its role as a nurturing, committed partner in building a sustainable future for Davao City.
