DC-UP Sports Complex route: LTFRB to check erring Mintal drivers

The Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) XI vows to punish public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers and operators for refusing to convey passengers to Davao City-University of the Philippines (DC-UP) Sports Complex during the Palarong Pambansa 2019.

Prior to the conduct of the sporting event, last April 27, the LTFRB XI issued special permits to operators of “Mintal-Roxas Avenue and vice versa” route, effective until May 4, 2019, to convey passengers up to DC-UP.

But commuters are reporting that some PUJ drivers resisted in conveying them up to the DC-UP sports complex.

This prompted the LTFRB to immediately deploy personnel yesterday to verify the reports.

Once verified, drivers will be fined P5,000 for practicing trip cutting or “for not following the designated routes.”

“I am reminding all the drivers and operators who were given special permits, especially that we are in the service of public transport not only for the Davaoenos but also for the visitors of the Palarong Pambansa, let us serve them right and convey passengers up to the venue,” LTFRB chair Martin Delgra III said on Friday.

Delgra added that even without complaints from the passengers for a specific driver, as long as they will be seen by his personnel not following the designated route during monitoring, they will immediately be apprehended.
