THE DAVAO Regional Athletics Association Meet has been smooth sailing so far, the City Sports and Development Division said.
During the iSpeak media forum, City Sports and Development Division head Mikey Aportadera said their months-long preparations proved to be effective.
“It gives importance sa ilaha being in Davao City. Other than that, athletes are doing good,” he said.
The Davao City Police Office deployed about 1,500 security forces to watch over the athletes and delegates, while the local government ensured the students were well-fed.
Aportadera said athletes complained about the intense heat, which affected performance and threatened their health.
“We have reminded them constantly na always hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,” he said.
DAVRAA 2024 officially kicked off on April 1 at the UP-Mindanao Sports Complex, drawing 4,940 competing athletes in the region.
