The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) has a new promotion program as the city continues to experience a tourism slow down due to the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Starting next week, CTOO will launch a program dubbed #DavaoLifeIs to showcase the city’s best features, including food, places, activities, deeds and all good things the city can offer.
CTOO head Generose Tecson, during the Ispeak media forum on Thursday, encouraged the public to participate in this drive to promote the tourism of the city.
Tecson urged the public to post something in social media featuring the city’s wonders with the hashtag #DavaoLifeIs. Each week, the CTOO will be providing different themes and concepts to link with the hashtag.
“For example, the CTOO will be providing you the theme #DavaoLifeIsYummy. You have to post pictures of food, restaurants and other things relating to the given theme. In this way we can showcase positive things happening in the city,” she said, adding that these will be posted in the Facebook page of CTOO.
She also said that this program may be a way to bring and attract visitors and organizers back to the city.
Tecson also encouraged those who will be taking pictures in the city to post it in social media even if it is not related with the theme provided by the CTOO. She urged the use of the hashtag #DavaoLifeIsHere in any random photos posted in the social media featuring the city.
“This is also to show the rest of the country, if not, the world, that here in Davao, things are going on okay,” she said.
Photo contest
Also in the same forum, Tecson said there will be a History of Davao photo contest in celebration of the 83rd Araw ng Dabaw.
Tecson urged everyone to participate on the event by posting on the social media the best photo of 3D light show with the hashtag #HistoryofDavaolightShow.
“This preparation is another way to entice individuals especially the locals to participate in this year’s Araw ng Davao.”
This contest is open to all individuals especially to Davaoenos who are interested in photography and have creative minds.
City Officials will choose the best photo daily and the winner will receive an Araw ng Dabaw t-shirt.
Big event
Tecson also said that some conferences still push through in the city.
“There will be a big event this April, a gathering of a religious organization will happen in the city. We are going to have about 5,000 expected guests,” she said.
However, Tecson has not yet bared any figures regarding the tourism percentage in the city. She said that hotel occupancy reports will be collected on March 10.
She also said that more plans have been discussed to promote creatively the tourism of the city, but she said, that as of now, this program will commence first. Samantha T. Burgos and Cherry Lyn Castillo/UM Intern
