Davaoeñas stand out at International Ballet Grand Prix

THREE young talents from Ateneo de Davao University and En Avant Dance and Arts Centre Davao captured the international spotlight by winning multiple awards at the 2024 International Ballet Grand Prix held at the Maybank Theater BGC.

Eight-year-old Phoenix Tuason, daughter of sportsman-businessman Migs Tuason, emerged as the grand winner and secured first place in the Junior 7-8-year-old Classical Ballet category. She qualified as a finalist for the upcoming IBGP in Singapore and was also awarded a scholarship to the International Arts Festival for 2025.

Her teammate Margaux Avisado, 11, stood out in the Youth 11-12 Contemporary Dance category. She took home Grand Winner honors as the highest scorer and secured first place in the competition. She also achieved a third-place victory in the Classical Ballet (Youth 11) category. She also qualifies as a finalist for the IBGP in Singapore.

Simone Avisado, 14, captured the third-place finish in the Classical Ballet (Youth 14) category and placed herself among the Top 10 performances in the Contemporary Dance (Youth 14) category. Along with both of her teammates, she also qualifies for the IBGP in Singapore as a result of her accomplishments.

The victory of the Davaoeñas at the International Ballet Grand Prix showcased the amazing talent trained at En Avant Dance and Arts Centre Davao and Ateneo de Davao University, highlighting the city’s potential in the international scene.
