Davao woodpushers finish behind CDO-Mis Or in online Goodwill match

Davao City’s woodpushers came up short next to their Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental counterparts in their 6th Goodwill Match and first online competition held last June 28, 2020 via lichess.org site.

Davao City tallied 354 points behind Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental which had 398 to cap their first online encounter which featured 10 regular boards and 10 executives in the scheduled two-day competition.

The Davao All-Stars were bannered by Dubai-based IM Oliver Dimakiling who led the delegation with 19 points joined by FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus, National Masters Alex Lupian and Henry Lopez, Mohammad Sacar, Carl Zirex Sato, John Ray Batucan, Junmark Baldesimo, Asian Juniors champion NM Jonathan Tan, Aglipay Oberio, Allan Diez, FIDE Trainer and International Arbiter James Infiesto, Rey Urbiztondo, Homer Rotulo, Christopher Yap, Lyndon Sombilon, Rhynan Arce and lawyers Jong Guervarra and Melzar Galicia.

The first day of competition featured the Chess 960 or known as the Fischer Random Blitz and the Standard Blitz match on final day.

Davao’s bets on the regular boards came up strong on opening day via a 101-89 lead but their executives crawled to an 87-103 count, handing Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental a four-point total advantage. However, they faltered on final day, that had Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental extending their lead with a 111-77 output in the executive class and a 95-89 win on the regular boards.

Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental executive line-up was led by National Master Levi Mercado, sports scribe Jaime Joshua Frias II, Ralph Dalauta, Jayson Nabatlao, Bryan Jose, Abdul Halil Abdullah, Paul Omongos, Fr. Vic Arellano, businessman Cleto Vasquez and Engr. Jun Gunayan. Its regular boards were International Master Richelleu Salcedo III, Lennon Hart Salgados, Johnnel Balquin, Christian Arroyo, Antonio Chavez Jr., Alfredo Rapanot, Nazario Ubanan, bothers Romeo and Ronald Canino and Randolph Dalauta.
