Davao radio broadcaster arrested for cybercrime law violations

A RADIO broadcaster was arrested for reportedly violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 on July 20, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

PS3-Talomo Station, led by PLT Allan D. Cajita and under the supervision of acting station commander Major Genesis P. Oriel, apprehended alias Dong, 43.

Alias Dong was arrested at Matina Crossing based on the warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Tagum City. 

The warrant was for violation of Section 4 of Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act), specifically related to cyber-libel.

The arrest was part of a regional level Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operation conducted in coordination with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit XI led by Col. Artemio B. Ricabo.

Upon apprehension, Dong was informed of his rights and the charges against him, as mandated by Supreme Court En Banc Resolution A.M. No. 21-06-08-SC. An Anti-Riot Device (ARD) was used during the arrest as a precautionary measure.

Dong will be transferred to the custody of the appropriate court to face the charges. The recommended bail for his temporary release was set at P108,000.00.

As of this writing, Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, said alias Dong remained in the custody of the Talomo Police Station.
