Davao light electricity rates decrease

THE DAVAO Light and Power Company’s electricity rates shrunk this October.

In an announcement by DLPC, the rate per kilowatt-hour has gone down from almost ₱9.48 in September to around ₱8.45 this October.

This means a one-peso decrease in DLPC’s rate this month, or a reduction of about ₱200 for every 200 kilowatt-hours consumed.

During the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps press briefing on Wednesday, Fermin Edillon, head of DLPC’s reputation enhancement division, said the decrease in electricity rates is due to a lower generation charge, which is the cost of electricity from power suppliers.

The official added that the implementation of staggered payments for the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) ended in September, following an order from the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Despite the decrease, the public is still advised to be vigilant and practice wise use of appliances to avoid a steep increase in their electricity bills.
