DAVAO Region ranked the second highest number of SIM registrants, following Region VI, Iloilo, among the 101.5 million registered individuals nationwide.

Nelson Cañete, National Telecommunications Commission XI regional director, said during the media forum on July 12 that they would no longer extend the SIM registration deadline after July 25, 2023. So, unregistered SIMs will be deactivated.

“On July 26, all unregistered numbers will be deactivated, all loads nga naa didto will be forfeited, dili na nato ma-view atoang mga phone books, and there are some applications na dili napud nato makita, especially those cell number dependent applications (All loads inside will be forfeited, we will be unable to view our phone books, and there are some applications that will be inaccessible especially those that are cell-dependent),” Cañete said.

Cañete said they confronted Telco companies regarding their rough estimation of SIM card registration per region, knowing that the process is mobile and not location-specific.

“However, gikan sa among experience sa SIM card-assisted registration, number two ang Region XI in terms of the number of registrants. So, daghan ta gapa-register diria sa Davao kung i-compare nato sa ubang region (However, from our experience in SIM card-assisted registration, Region XI came number two in the highest number of registrants. So, we do have a lot of registrants in Davao compared to other regions),” Cañete added.

A three-day city-wide SIM card registration will also be held on July 13-15, 2023, to assist unregistered phones before the given deadline.
