The provincial government of Davao del Norte and the 10th Infantry Division worked together to distribute food and livelihood aid to the indigenous communities in Talaingod town.
Maj. Jerry Lamosao, the 10th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief, said on April 28, the members of Tatag Farmer’s Association of Nasilaban, headed by Dominguez Juan, harvested the first produce of the vegetable farm in Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod Davao del Norte.
A decent 35 kilograms of tomatoes were harvested in their initial set up of farm and earned a net worth of P1,225. This is projected to benefit the members of the Farmer’s Association of Nasilaban. They also planted other types of vegetables, which will be harvested in the coming days.
On May 25, Talaingod Mayor Johnnie A. Libayao, provincial agriculturist Jose Andamon, TESDA representative Glenda T. Galibo, and Lt. Col. Norman Valdez, commanding officer of the 56th IB, led the opening ceremony for TESDA livelihood training on vegetable farming and broiler chicken meat production for farmers and women in Sitio Kaylawan, Barangay Sto Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
The skills training will run for twelve weeks to assist and equip the trainees from the preparation stage and harvest stage.
On June 2, the provincial government of Davao del Norte, through Governor Edwin Jubahib, the commanders of Eastern Mindanao Command and 10th ID, turned over forestry and agroforestry planting materials to the IP communities of Talaingod.
The planting materials include 30,000 banana seedlings, 10 sacks of sweet potato, 250 packs of vegetable seeds, 1,000 seedlings of coconut, 9,900 seedlings of mahogany, and seedlings of falcata for the people’s organization. Solar generator sets were also given for use of the CAA detachments in the area.
There are 10 units of solar-powered lighting systems for 10 CAA detachments. The lighting system was funded by the LGU and assembled by the 1003rd Infantry Brigade.
Most of the beneficiaries of the programs were former rebels and NPA supporters. The governor planned to give livestock (duck, native pigs, chicken) during the second tranche and additional solar gensets for electrification of the far-flung sitios in Talaingod.

On June 3, the 56th IB and the Talaingod agricultural office conducted a skills training on vegetable farming and chicken broiler meat production intended for the Tatag Tibucag Ata-Manobo Farmer’s Association and Tibucag Women’s Association held in Sitio Tibucag, Barangay Dagohoy, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
The team also trained the Banwaloy Farmer’s Association on vegetable production last May 29 in Sitio Banwaloy, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
Another Tesda skills training started on June 4, vegetable farming, and broiled chicken meat production for Km. 31 Farmers and Women’s Association in Sitio Km. 31, Barangay Dagohoy, Talaingod.
“This has been one of the gaps we had before. We are gradually closing the gap, preventing the recovery of the cleared areas with these community development teams,” Maj. Gen. Reuben Basiao, the 10th ID commander, said.
