Davao City – The much-anticipated Palarong Pambasa 2019 opens in grand rites on Sunday (April 28, 2019) at the Davao City-University of the Philippines (UP) Sports complex grounds in Mintal.

Athletes, their coaches and game officials coming from the country’s 17 regions are expected to grace the opening rites at 3 p.m. of the weeklong sporting spectacle.
“The city is more than thrilled to welcome more than 18,000 delegates of the Palarong Pambansa, as it promotes physical education among young Filipinos and inculcates in them the values of excellence, discipline, teamwork, fair play, and integrity,” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in her message.
“Our passion for sports has inspired us to run the extra mile in preparations to give all of you an indelible, incredible experience in this annual multi-sport event,” added Duterte-Carpio who is expected to grace the opening rites along with President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
Competing in this year’s edition of the Palarong Pambansa are the Region 1 Golden Kingfisher, Cagayan Valley Hawks, Central Luzon Patriots, Calabarzon The Heroes, Mimaropa Tamaraws, Bicol Vulcans, Western Visayas The Blue Barons, Central Visayas Fighters, Eastern Visayas Golden Stingers, Zamboanga Sharks, NorthMin Stars, Soccskargen Warriors, NCR Jammers, Caraga Brave Souls, CAR Fearless Highlanders, Mighty BARMM and the Davao Eagles.
Aside from the Davao City-UP Sports Complex which will host games such as archery, football (secondary boys), swimming and volleyball (secondary boys and girls), Other games are played at the Malayan Colleges Mindanao (arnis, aero gymnastics), University of Mindanao Matina Campus (athletics, basketball/secondary girls, softball/secondary girls, volleyball/elementary boys and girls), Barangay Calinan Gymnasium (badminton), Lt. Villafuerte Elementary School (baseball/elementary boys), Davao City National High School (sepak takraw/junior and senior, softball/elementary girls), University of Southeastern Philippines (basketball/secondary boys), Rizal Memorial Colleges (basketball/secondary boys), Barangay Toril gymnasium (table tennis), Davao City Recreation Center (boxing), Davao Chong Hua High School (chess), Tiongko Football field (football/elementary boys), Barangay Mintal Gymnasium (futsal), University of Immaculate Conception (gymnastics), Precious International School of Davao (wushu), St. Peter College of Toril (pencak silat), San Pedro College (rhythmic gymnastics), Ecoland Phase 2 and 4 (tennis/elementary boys and girls), GSIS Heights Tennis Club (tennis/secondary boys and girls), St. John Paul II College of Davao (wrestling), Tacunan National High School (baseball/secondary boys), Davao City SPED Elementary School (bocce, goal ball), Philippine Science High Schoo (dance sports), Holy Cross of Davao College (basketball 3×3), Gaisano Mall of Toril (taekwondo) and Gaisano Grand Citygate Mall (billiards).
