Davao City jail guards immobilize drone carrying P50-K worth of cigarettes

THE DAVAO City Jail-Annex intercepted the use of a drone to sneak contraband into the facility around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29.

Accordingly, jail warden Erwin Esden swiftly responded to the sighting of a drone hovering over the facility with an unidentified object dangling under it.

The DCJ-Annex personnel immobilized and retrieved the drone before it could smuggle any contraband into jail premises, the report said.

In coordination with the Ma-a police, the dangling object was identified as packs of SSS Mascadas cigarettes amounting to P50,000.

In a statement, the Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology (BJMP) XI said the incident underscored how detainees and their cohorts resorted to technology to bypass security. Nevertheless, the Davao City Jail-Annex personnel are well-equipped to secure the facility from internal or external threats.
