
THE CITY Health Office reported a 13.5% decline in dengue cases in the city for the first five months of the year against the figures for the same period in 2024.
The CHO’s Tropical Disease Prevention and Control Unit recorded 1,682 dengue cases this year, an improvement from the 1,942 cases recorded in the same period last year.
City health officer Dr. Tomas Miguel Ababon attributed the numbers to the continued public awareness campaigns and strict implementation of preventive measures.
The CHO continues to implement a range of interventions to minimize dengue transmission, including surveillance of 18,258 households as of June 2, in addition to the 761 households that received targeted outdoor residual spraying and targeted indoor residual spraying.
Fogging operations were also conducted in 78 barangays, along with 152 information and education campaigns for the past five months.
From January to May 2025, the local government distributed 5,792 dengue kits and completed 373 search-and-destroy activities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
According to CHO data, Barangay Bucana reported the highest dengue cases of the 182 barangays.It is followed by Buhangin Proper, Talomo Proper, Tibungo, Calinan Proper, Catalunan Grande, Tigatto, Bunawan Proper, Panacan, Matina Crossing, Cabantian, Maa, Sasa, Catalunan Pequeño, Mintal, Barangay 19-B, Lubogan, Bago Gallera, Sto. Niño, and Daliao.
Ababon said the city has 52 operational Barangay Mosquito-Borne Disease Task Force (BMDTF) out of 182.
Meanwhile, Davaoeños are urged to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent the proliferation of mosquito breeding sites.
