Davao-based artists are mulling to group themselves into a federation to foster camaraderie and support, while at the same time promote independence.
Visual artist Ega Carreon said during the Art Talk in Park Inn Radisson Hotel in Lanang that this initiative started last year during the first ever Davao Art Summit held at the Art Sanctuary in Ma-a, this city.
This art federation will encourage members to know and understand their rights in terms of protecting their work, receive updates on the latest issues and events that concern the art community, and have access to seminars and workshops.
Rob Tanedo, an art education professor at the Philippine Women’s College of Davao to discuss the preparations for the second art fair and exhibit space Art Market that will take place on March 6-8, 2020, at Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao.
The event is organized by the PWC Fine Arts and Design Institutional Management Enterprise (IME) Program, which will also sync with this year’s celebration of the 83rd Araw ng Dabaw.
This year, the Art Market is partnering with the British Council Creative Innovators Fellowship to feature the “Art with a heART’ products, services, and ideas, developed through the help of fine arts students from PWC and marginalized communities here in Davao City.
Angely Chi, the Southern Mindanao Art Laboratory (ARTEX) consulting supervisor, mentioned some of their outreach programs and their plans in promoting Badjao art.
They are also currently working on a documentary film with Megan Palero featuring a Badjao self-taught artist, Ruben Ladyawan, and their plans in helping him digitize the Ladyawan Typeface, at the same time introducing the Vernacular Typography through a forum.
