Davao All Stars upstage CDO/Misamis Oriental’s Finest in “Decision Match”

THE DAVAO All Stars completed a stunning comeback to claim the “Decision Match” to close the 3rd and final online chess Goodwill Games next to the Cagayan de Oro/Misamis Oriental’s Finest over the weekend played via Lichess.org.

It was the third and final match-up for both squads which had the Regular Boards and Executives line-up. In their first encounter, it was the Cagayan de Oro/Misamis Oriental’s Finest which drew first blood scoring 398 points next to Davao’s 354. On their second meet-up, Davao stormed back winning 413 points over CDO-Misamis Oriental’s total of 354.

However, things still turned on the Davao All Stars’ side on their third and final encounter as they cruised to a 25-point overall victory with a total of 362 points over CDO-Misamis Oriental’s Finest’337.

The Davao All Stars took charge in Day One with 102 points on the Regular Boards and 85 in the Executive Class for a total of 187 on the Random Chess 960 play format next to CDO/Misamis Oriental’s Finest sum of 180 (91-89). On the Standard Chess category, the Davao All Stars continued their dominance having a total of 175 points noting 102 for the Regular Boards and 73 from the Executives to complete the series victory topping CDO/Misamis Oriental’s 157 with 69 on its Regular Boards and 88 from its Executives.

Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Lyndon Sombilon, head teacher of Precious International School was the top performer in the Executives Class with 26 points.

Arena Grandmaster (AGM) and Precious International School head teacher Lyndon Sombilom was judged as the top performer for the Executives Division with a total of 26 points while IM Oliver Dimakiling took the best player in the Regular Boards with 32 points.

“It was a great comeback win for us next to the Cagayan de Oro/Misamis Oriental’s Finest. We the Davao All Stars are so happy with the victory. We are now preparing for our first Goodwill Match versus team Caraga this September 19 and 20 plus the Mindanao Chess League on October 11 to 12, 2020,” said IA/FT James Infiesto.

Aside from Sombilom and Infiesto other members of the Davao All Stars Executive line-up were NM Jonathan Tan, Engr. Allan Diez, Atty. Jong Guevarra, Rey de Guzman, Ariel Aton, Rhynan Arce, Jimzon Trangia, Arnel Aton and Engr. Napoleon Recososa.

Top Player for the Regulars is IM Oliver Dimakiling who finished with 32 points.

Dimakiling, on the other hand was joined by FM Aj Literatus, NM Alex Lupian, AGM Henry Roger Lopez, Engr. Aglipay Oberio, Anthony Mosqueda, Jayson Salubre, Jimmy Dano, Carl Zirex Sato and John Ray Batucan. Reserves are Atty. Melzar Galicia, Chris Yap, Alfred Moulic, Homer Rotulo, Ruel Nuttal and Mohammad Sacar.

The Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental’s Finest paraded NM Levi Mercado, Domingo Oga, Cleto Vasquez, Fr. Vic Arellano, Jaime Frias II, Ralph Dalauta, Bryan Jose, Jason Nabatlao, Engr. Abdul Halil Abdulah and Engr. Paul Omongos on its Executive roster while IM Richelleu Salcedo, FM Rustom Tolentino, Lennon Hart Salgados, Johnnel Balquin, Christian Arroyo, Ronald Canino, Alfredo Rapanot, Nazario Ubanan, Allan Cantojos and Romeo Canino on the Regular boards. Jonard Labadan, Jun Ganuyan, Aljie Cantojos and Randulph Dalauta were the reserves.
