VICE MAYOR Atty. Datu Omar A. Samama is recovering after surviving an assassination attempt during a community outreach event in Datu Piang, according to an official statement released by the local government unit on Monday, Feb. 24.
The incident occurred during the 4th SHINE (Serbisyong Handog ng Inyong Nagmamalasakit at Epektibong Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Datu Piang) convergence event at the COVID Center in Barangay Magaslong.
“We are thankful to report that, by the grace of Allah, Vice Mayor Samama is currently recovering,” the LGU statement said. “His family, colleagues, and the entire community of Datu Piang continue to offer their support, and we remain hopeful for his full recovery.”
Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the LGU has expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation and urged the public to remain calm and patient while law enforcement officials work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
“Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and we trust that the necessary steps are being taken to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice,” the statement read.
“We urge all members of the community to remain patient and calm as the investigation progresses. It is crucial that we respect the due process of law and allow law enforcement to complete their work.”
The LGU also called for unity and vigilance within the community, emphasizing the importance of peace and mutual respect.
