The Finance manager of Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative-Cooperative Development Authority (DANECO-CDA) was killed early yesterday morning in Maco, Compostela Valley.
Police Capt. Woody Sabdani, the officer-in-charge of Maco Municipal Police Station, identified the victim as Glenn Maico Ordoño, 46, married, a resident of Purok 3, Poblacion, Maco.
Ordoño, the finance manager of DANECO-CDA based in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, was biking when a riding-in-tandem attacked him in Purok 1 of Lupon-lupon Hijo, Maco around 5:15 a.m.
According to Sabdani, his men received a call from a Maco traffic enforcer regarding the shooting incident.
Antonio Ordoño, the victim’s father, said his son left their house onboard a mountain bike for a morning exercise around 5 a.m.
The victim was bound to nearby Barangay Lapu-lapu in the same town.
A witness who was jogging at that time said two men on a motorcycle were following the victim.
The back rider then shot the victim, the witness said.
The body of the victim now lies at Maco Funeral in Purok 3, Anislagan, Maco.
Sabdani, in a text message, said they are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive and the identify the perpetrators.
The DANECO-CDA has been engaged in a feud with a split DANECO group under the National Electrification Administration (NEA) or the DANECO-NEA.
The decade-long rift between the two groups started when members and officers of the DANECO held a referendum to register DANECO as a stock cooperative under CDA, a move meant as a protest against allegations of mismanagement of DANECO under NEA.
But NEA asserted its hold of DANECO by citing a new law that placed all electric cooperatives under NEA regardless of their affiliation.
The Supreme Court, on its resolution dated November 2015, declared with finality that the appointments and elections made by DANECO registered to CDA to be invalid.
Last month, 24 workers of DANECO-CDA were arrested for alleged pilfering of electricity as they tried to reconnect the power lines of a cooperative that was cut by rival DANECO-NEA.
