Cultural Potpourri | Chef Patrick Co in Caring and Doing Good to Others

“We’ve been taught that charity starts at home, so instead of making donations somewhere else, I appeal that you see through the plight of your workers, provide them with food assistance, and help them survive the crisis that swept through sectors and classes—but severely, those who barely make ends meet, including your workers….We are Dabawenyos. We have always shown that our hearts are for each other and for our City…Collectively, our spirit as a people has been and will always be indestructible,” so appealed Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Just when restaurants, hotels, shops, offices, banks and many other businesses closed their doors in this challenging time of the COVIDA-19 global epidemic, a young Chinoy chef named Patrick Co, proprietor of the City’s popular restaurants called Fat Cow and Asian Cow located along Mabini Street, Davao City, heeded the good Mayor’s call. Chef Patrick would remind you in his borrowed quote from the Iranian philosopher Zoroaster that, “Doing good for others is not a duty, it’s a joy for it increases our own health and happiness. And he who has health and happiness, has hope. And he who has hope, has everything.” Yes, indeed, spoken like a true master of the kitchen blessed with wisdom; and confidently talented with a good heart. How inspiring that in these difficult times that we are going through, a kind millennial like chef Patrick could highlight good societal values.

People like him show and remind us, so timely in this solemn Holy Week period we are observing, what it is like to treat people with kindness, dignity and respect in this very challenging time of global adversity with the outbreak of the pandemic COVIDA-19.

One makes you wonder if, truly, caring is a natural human emotion and disposition with so much hate and harsh criticisms posted in social media these days. “Let us just do our part and help each other. With all the toxic thoughts posted in Facebook and social media, we should just focus and remain positive with the good vibes that we are Filipinos in deed no matter who heads the government. I pray for all Davaoenos to be united in this fight against the most dreaded COVIDA-19. We should nourish and practice caring for others in all aspects of our lives to somehow reduce the misery and hardship; and to realize our own humanity,” responded the good chef.

Chef Patrick Co has been distributing food packs to the City’s frontliners: AFP, PNP, PAF, SPMC COVIDA-19 Team, among others, for three weeks now. Yes, 16,770 food packs plus counting have been personally distributed by him and his team. “We want to let our frontliners know that we sincerely appreciate their hard work. Each day is getting harder but we continue pushing ourselves to serve our self-sacrificing frontliners. We each have to do our part and help each other survive,” he said.

Please help chef Patrick with his food donation drive. For every P1,000.00 you donate, 10 food packs will be provided to our frontliners. You can send food or cash donations through Fat Cow or Asian Cow located along Mabini Street. Cash donations may be sent through BDO account no: 003248011199.

Fat Cow and Asian Cow are now offering ready to grill marinated meat products and microwaveable Asian Cow and Fat Cow gourmet meals for take out. “It’s a very convenient way of eating good food in a time like this. All the food are made fresh and are blast-frozen to retain their high quality taste while you prepare and enjoy them in the comfort and safety of your home. We guarantee you that our food is prepared with care; and processed under high standards just like what we offer in our restaurants. Do get these culinary offerings at Fat Cow by calling us at tel.no: 224-5906. We do accept bank transfer, cash and credit card payments,” promotes chef Patrick.

As Christine Uy said, “A salute to Patrick Co and his team and donors. Your dedication inspire us to join you and be a part of this noble act. Thank you for being our everyday hero.”
