CTTMO to regulate, properly mark tricycles by route, area

THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) is finalizing regulations for the possible added identification markings for tricycles. 

The office is also working on the amendment to the Traffic Code to increase the penalty for violation of illegal parking by large vehicles.

CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude, in a media interview Monday, said they found the necessity to put markings on vehicles applying for MTOP.

The rule was proposed in the wake of the rape-slay in Calinan involving an ombac (yellow tricycle).

Meanwhile, Abude said that they would impose a uniform-sized and unique code based on each area, and the number would be based on the list provided by the Motorized Vehicle Franchising and Regulatory Division (MVRD).

The visible identification marks will soon become a requirement for every tricycle, and the MVFRD is joining barangay caravans to announce this development.

He added that the MVFRD is also studying to limit the approval of vehicles according to the number of vehicles needed by passengers in a specific area and prioritize the approval of those with complete documents that are road-worthy.

On the other hand, Abude also said that their office already to lobbied the Sannguniang Panlungsod for the amendment to the Comprehensive Traffic Code to increase the illegal parking of big trucks from P500- P5,000.

He said violators, particularly trailers, wing vans, and dump trucks – left on the highway without early warning devices can cause accidents involving other vehicles. He said the increased fees would serve as a deterrent.
