THE HEAD of the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) clarified that political candidates may attend the Parada Dabawenyo, the culminating event of the Araw ng Davao on March 16, provided they follow all set rules.
“We don’t have a rule directing that they are not invited but they really have to follow the guidelines set,” Jennifer Romeo, CTOO chief, said during the iSpeak Media Forum on Thursday.
However, she said those running for office must not use the venue for political campaigns.
Security personnel for the candidates are also strictly prohibited, according to the restrictions posted on the Araw ng Dabaw page on Jan. 24.
Romero added generic restrictions such as throwing giveaways to the spectators in the form of candies, fans, caps, hand towels and any form of promotional materials will also apply to the attending candidates.
“These are generic guidelines that apply even without the election, that we strictly observe, much more that with the presence of political candidates, they are not allowed to throw anything,” she said.
The office anticipates local and national candidates on the parade, but no one has expressed intent at present.
The official expects Vice President Sara Duterte and former President Rodrigo Duterte to attend the event.
Restricted activities during the parade include distributing/throwing flyers, placards, and handbills. Chanting foul language and any anti-government expression is also strictly prohibited.
To avoid confusion, wearing military uniforms by members of any non-law enforcement units is not allowed, but members may wear their agency/unit shirts as long as they do not wear their military uniform.
Wearing black fatigue uniforms, jeans, shirts only, skimpy outfits, and very “sexy” clothing is also prohibited.
For the participants in floats, smoke-belching is strictly prohibited, as well as littering trash and using party poppers, confetti, and any form of firecracker. Every participant must submit themselves to authorities for random frisking and inspection when required.
