The Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has already distributed relief aids to 53 barangays.
CSWDO head Malou Bermudo, in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio yesterday, said that since they started, they already gave relief packs to 103,394 families of Wednesday, April 1.
The office covered barangays Tibungco with 10,654 families; Sasa with 9,985 families; Mintal with 2,100; Tacunan with 3,350; Bago Oshiro with 1,870; Los Amigos with 2,950; Sto. Niño with 6,200; Tugbok wth 3,100; Matina Crossing with 11,747; Barangay 24-C with 512; and Barangay 27-C with 491.
Overall, they aimed at 52,959 families to be given relief goods for that day.
“This is only the first round of the city government. Barangays have been directed to use their calamity funds, but they are the ones to decide where to use them. It may be that those who have been given already prior to our distribution may come from the barangay’s own fund or maybe from donations,” she said.
But she said not all barangays are using their funds for food.
The city government has also recommended the barangays to do the house-to-house distribution of relief aids. If not, then officials should ensure that the proper protocols have been followed during the distribution of goods.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sara Duterte bared that more than half of the targeted 500,000 food and medicine passes have already been distributed to the barangays. She said that as of Wednesday, they already distributed 319,000 passes.
The food and medicine passes will be used during the enhanced community quarantine in the city.
“We target about 99 percent of our people (to be given FM),” Duterte said in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio.
The city government has started distributing the FM passes since Monday as it prepares to elevate its measures in preventing the spread of COVID-19 by putting the city under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
“If we are already under the ECQ, that will be the time that we are going to use the food and medicine pass,” she said.
Duterte also added that only those people with food and medicine passes will be allowed to go out. And those who will go to work must have their employees ID with them. Team leaders in every barangay should establish a “buffer” for those individuals who were not able to acquire or given the FM pass prior to the implementation.
Duterte added that the city government has already instructed the purok leaders to conduct house-to-house visits in distributing the passes so that nobody will be left out, including subdivisions and condominiums. “I hope those who are in the subdivisions would reach out to their purok leaders so they can be given food and medicine pass,” she said.
