CSWDO: Barangay 2-A fire victims to receive cash aid, transfer of evacuees underway

THE CITY Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) on Thursday will start distributing cash assistance to the fire victims next week.

During the iSpeak Media Forum on July 19, CSWDO head Julie Dayaday said 64 houses/structures were totally damaged, so each homeowner will receive P20,000 each. The Barangay 2-A fire on Saturday displaced 152 families (539 individuals), according to CSWDO’s latest data on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, 56 renters and 27 sharers will receive P10,000 each. The 34 boarders on the other hand will receive P5,000 each.

Maningkamot ta nga ma process ug mahatag ang ilang assistance before mag-start ang klase,” Dayaday said.

Presently, 31 families (146 individuals) are temporarily housed in Magallanes Elementary School, while 22 families (112 individuals) were placed in Bolton Elementary School to avoid congestion.

Dayaday said they are in constant communication, especially with the house owners affected to prepare to vacate the school as the school year is approaching.

She added they would sit down with the barangay chairman to find a temporary shelter to transfer the victims to another evacuation site.

Revised Deped Order No. 37 states that during disasters, local government can use schools as immediate evacuation sites for only 15 days, and not as long-term shelter.

Two evacuation centers in the city, one in Mahayag, Buhangin district, and one in Los Amigos in Tugbok district will be offered to the evacuees for their temporary shelter.

Both the evacuation centers have complete amenities such as a kitchen area, wash area, toilets, storage room, clinic, lying-in room, and a child-friendly room.

However, the official said the distance from the evacuation centers to their workplaces might hinder the evacuees from transferring.

“We will transfer them to places or a gym from another barangay near their workplaces, as the Brgy. 2-A does not have a place to accommodate them,” Dayaday said.
