The City Social Services Development Office (CSSDO) and the Department of Education (DepEd) XI conducted an orientation on the child protection policy (CPP) to ensure that the Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) delegates are free from abuse.
More than 50 social workers and trained non-social workers from the CSSDO briefed the DAVRAA delegation on Jan. 26-27. Guidance counselors also helped the agency in the implementation.
“The delegations, particularly the coaches and chaperons, have been oriented through the CPP designed by the city,” said Gina Molon, social welfare officer of the CSSDO.
The CSSDO, after the orientation, also went around each classroom to monitor the arrangement per delegation.
“So far, based on our monitoring, the preparation has been in place. We have not monitored any hazardous factors for our children in terms of facilities in the playing venues and billeting areas,” Molon said.
Several factors have been considered in the monitoring of the CPP.
“Aside from the facilities, we also monitored the child handling,” she added.
Molon said that verbal abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse are strictly monitored.
“Our athletes are minors, hence, we have to ensure that the setup in their billeting quarters, the male and female delegates are separated and the adults are also separated from the minors,” Molon said.
“We want to make the delegations feel that Davao City is indeed a child-friendly city,” she added.
