The City Government will shoulder the cremation of up to 300 bodies of patients who died from COVID-19.
Mayor Sara Duterte bared on Friday that they will utilize a portion of the Bayanihan We Heal As One Act budget that was downloaded by the national government to address the COVID-19 situation in the city.
“We are going to cover the expenses for the cremation because the challenge before, the reason they (cadavers) are piling up, is because they (families of deceased COVID-19 patients) cannot produce money within in 12 hours,” she said.
Medical doctors said that the cadavers of COVID-19 patients must be cremated within 12 hours. The Department of Health said that in the absence of a cremation facility, the body must be placed in a well-sealed coffin then buried 10 feet underground.
Currently, Davao City has three crematoriums.
