Two rowdy police officers are now sobering up in jail after they allegedly abused their authority in separate incidents on Tuesday.
Cpl. Richie Coberos, assigned to the Sta. Ana Police Station, was arrested after he reportedly went wild inside the Southern Philippines Medical Center compound at 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Col. Kirby John Kraft, Davao City Police Office, told TIMES that Cpl. Jerwin Arcenas, assigned to the Buhangin Police Station, noticed the commotion while he was on beat patrol at SPMC. He noticed that Ceboros was drunk and so advised him to go home.
But the suspect pulled out his service firearm and fired at Arcenas, who took cover behind an electrical post.
Coberos then sprinted toward Cabaguio Avenue but was arrested by two teams from the Buhangin Police Station and residents of the area.
Maj. Estrello Ramiso, the Buhangin Police Station commander, said that the suspect will face a case for attempted homicide.
In another incident, a Maguindanaoan cop was detained in the Talomo Police Station for raising a ruckus at the quarantine control point in Kabataan Center, Bago Gallera, Talomo District at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The suspect was identified as Police Executive Master Sgt. Jefil Millan Ates, 47, who is presently assigned as the chief clerk operator of Lampitok, Maguindanao Police Provincial Office, and a resident of Samantha Homes, Catalunan Pequeño.
Kraft said that Bago Gallera village councilor Neil de Guzman and the barangay security volunteers were manning the control point when they flagged down Ates’ vehicle.
The policeman alighted from his vehicle and challenged de Guzman and others. According to the report, he was being rude, screamed at the team, pointed his finger at the official, and even ripped off the face mask of the village councilor.
He identified himself as a policeman and pushed de Guzman on the chest. He called for police assistance and a mobile team was deployed to the area to arrest Ates.
The arresting team also noticed that the suspect reeked of alcohol. They brought him to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for the liquor test, the results of which will be presented as evidence for the drunk driving charge to be filed against him.
Ates is now under the custody of the Talomo Police Precinct, facing an administrative case, along with violation of R.A. 11332 in relation to E.O no. 33 (liquor ban) and Art. 151 or disobedience to a person in authority.
