The Philippine Film Export Services Office (PFESO) is looking at the city as a destination for film tourism because of its topography that can attract film makers.
PFESO head David Fabros said during the meeting with Davao Tourism Association (DATA) the city can become a hub for film tourism because “there are so many possibilities you can get natural locations here, if you want nature, if you want cityscape, if you want industrial, you can find many places here in Davao.”
He said the streets of Claveria and San Pedro have great potentials to be considered as an ideal filming spot because of their resemblance to the streets in Bangkok.
Last February, DATA President Gatchi Gatchalian already bared the creation of Davao Film Council to mobilize their goal in promoting the city not just to Filipino film industry but also international film production outfits.
Meanwhile, Fabros added that film location does not need to be “touristy” as it could be “markets, informal communities, factories, warehouses, forest or even old houses.”
Some large international movie productions already filmed in Davao Region like the “I Come with the Rain” in 2007 which starred Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett and Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura who shot parts of the film in Mt. Diwalwal, Compostela Valley.
In 2013, a South Korean film “No Breathing” that starred popular Korean actors Seo In Guk and Lee Jong Suk shot scenes in areas of the city and the nearby Tagum City.
