Comelec holds special satellite registration for persons deprived of liberty

TO ENSURE the inclusion of all eligible voters in the upcoming elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted a Special Satellite Registration for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The registration was carried out under the guidance of the jail warden, Jsupt William T. Manengyao, and deputy warden Jinsp Gary L. Magdale. They were instrumental in facilitating the process alongside Comelec staff from Districts 1 and 2. EA II Ruel Basilan of District 1 and EA II Jackelyn C. Citan of District 2 led their respective teams in ensuring a smooth registration process for the non-registered PDLs.

The initiative aligns with the memorandum issued by Jcsupt Cesar Macalinga Langawin, regional director of BJMPRO-X, dated Feb. 7, 2024, concerning the Special Satellite Registration for PDL voters, and further adheres to the guidelines for clustering established precincts as stipulated in the July 16, 2024 memorandum.

These measures underscore the commitment to upholding the constitutional rights of all eligible voters, including those currently deprived of liberty, to participate in the 2025 National and Local Elections. Registered PDL, comprising both Male and Female Dormitories:

  • 1st District: 184
  • 2nd District: 26
  • Total: 210

The Special Satellite Registration aims to enable PDLs to exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming elections, thus ensuring their voice is heard in the democratic process.
