THE LAND Transportation Office (LTO) Davao deployed 11 Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel as deputized traffic enforcers starting Monday, July 15.
These officers completed the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) training and orientation.
Lt. Commander Angel Tobias, chief of staff and spokesperson for Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), said the PCG personnel will initially be assigned to Davao City, partnering with LTO XI officers to monitor and enforce traffic regulations.
A second batch of PCG personnel is scheduled for SAICT training and deployment throughout the region.
The initiative followed the inauguration of the SAICT at CGDSEM headquarters in Davao City on Friday, July 12. SAICT will help address rising transportation challenges in Region XI, including illegal vehicle operations, traffic violations, and congestion at airports and seaports.
Commodore Rejard Marfe, CGDSEM commander, highlighted the significance of the collaboration between agencies in tackling the region’s transportation concerns. The deployment of trained Coast Guard personnel is expected to bolster traffic management efforts and enhance road safety in the city.
Established under a Department of Transportation (DOTr) order, the SAICT plays a crucial role in safeguarding transportation systems and ensuring public safety.
