Clear obstructions

THE HEAD of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) met with the sidewalk vendors at the Bankerohan Public Market and Farmers Market Center to inform them of the planned clearing operation.

“The designated roadways are currently obstructed by vendors’ goods, causing delays,” CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude explained. “To improve traffic flow, we will begin relocating around 400 street vendors next month.”

The CTTMO is working with local barangays and SK officials for a smooth relocation process.

The confiscated merchandise will be returned to vendors who comply with the directive to move off the streets.

Additionally, the City Engineer’s Office is creating designated public pay parking spaces at the Bankerohan Public Market for private vehicles.

During the iSpeak forum on Thursday, May 23, City Economic Enterprises acting head Maximo Macalipes Jr. believed that the relocation won’t affect vendors’ income. The sidewalk vendors have been encroaching on the roads, particularly on Posadas Street, Datu Bago Street, and Marfori Street.

Part of their plan is to install signage from the usual spots where sidewalk vendors usually sell their goods to inform customers where to find them.

The Bankerohan Public Market has 406 vacant stalls.
