The city government is currently upgrading the equipment and adding advanced tools to level up the disaster management operations.
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Alfredo Baloran on Thursday said that part of their plans is to put up a radio station.
“So that anytime, whenever there’s a disaster, the information will be disseminated right away to the listeners within Davao City,” he said.
“The AM/FM radio station was proposed because more people are listening to radio and the information dissemination is easier,” he said.
It also more accessible for the people who have no cellphones.
The CDRRMO also installed four 360 coastal cameras in Binugao, Matina Aplaya, Toril, and Tibungco facing Davao gulf for monitoring earthquakes and the status of waters.
“Aside from coastal cameras, we also have a siren so whenever we monitor changes of water levels, we switch on the sirens especially the one located in City Hall,” Baloran said.
Other departments are also bracing for flood incidents. He said the City Engineer’s Office will be acquiring new sets of backhoe for large-scale excavation of garbage and lifting of heavy materials.
“The Central 911 still has equipment intended to be delivered,” he added.
Early this year, the Ancillary Services Unit (ASU) acquired a reversible pump, generator set, jack hammer, and mini-dump truck worth approximately P4 million.
ASU chief Paul Bermejo said they also purchased a welding machine so they can repair any damage to the heavy equipment themselves.
