City launches radio station

The city government yesterday launched its first official radio station that will disseminate information, especially regarding disaster situations.

Davao City Disaster Radio, or DCDR, is located at the RJ Homes Building in Pelayo Street.

Mayor Sara Duterte, who graced the launching, said the main purpose of the radio station is to update the people in the city as well as the entire region regarding various activities of the city government, especially on disaster matter.

“This is intended for disaster preparedness and disaster response,” she said.

“We have seen that even with our presence in social media, in televisions, and even with the partnerships we have with the mainstream media, we noticed that there is still a need to reach out more to Davaoeños,” she said.

The radio station can be reached through the frequency 87.5 MHz.

The government-run radio station can be tuned in 24 hours a day “so that the people may catch every bit of information from the city government,” she said.

The said station covers the entire region – Davao City, Davao del Sur, some parts in Davao del Norte, parts in Davao de Oro, some parts of Davao Occidental and some parts of Davao Oriental.

“If you have disaster preparedness or disaster projects that you want to share with the entire region, you can share it with the public through our radio. That’s why we signed a manifesto with other governors to let people know that this is a venue for the entire region,” she said.
