The City Council approved on Tuesday the P300,000 financial assistance to Kalibo, Aklan following the huge fire that razed its public market last month.
The financial assistance was passed on suspended rules under the committee of finance, ways and means, and appropriations, with a certificate of urgency from City Administrator Zuleika Lopez.
The assistance is meant “to alleviate the unfortunate fate suffered by the victims of the said calamity.”
The aid was culled from the 30% Quick Response Fund out of the 5% calamity fund for 2019.
The town of Kalibo, the capital of Aklan, has been declared under a state of calamity after the huge fire that gobbled 300 stores staring at 12:36 a.m. of Sept. 15. Investigators estimated the damage of the 12-hour fire at P35 million.
