THE CITY government and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development signed a memorandum of understanding for the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program (4PH), which provides affordable housing units to Davaoeños.
In a message delivered by Councilor Sweet Advincula during the first housing fair opening ceremony in SM City Annex, on Oct. 12, Mayor Sebastian Duterte expressed his commitment to support the program by affirming the city’s shared responsibility to meet the shelter needs of the people.
“We gathered here not only to celebrate the shelter month but also to signify the commitment of our respective LGUs furthering the cause of providing accessible and affordable housing to the public through the 4PH,” Advincula, reading Duterte’s message, said.
“We recognize that shelter is a basic human right as well as a foundation of thriving vibrant communities… Davao Region truly leaves no one behind,” she added.
People’s Ville I, II, and III at the Riverside Calinan is now under construction led by the Social Housing Finance Corporation. It will be composed of 82 buildings with 8,000 residential units.
Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino L. Acuzar said in his speech that the housing project is pro-poor as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said to prioritize the informal settlers who belong to the “poorest of the poor”.
“Hindi lamang basta bubong sa ibabaw ng mga ulo ng ating mga kababayan ang ating minimithi, kundi disente, ligtas at matatag na pabahay na magbibigay dignidad sa ating mga kababayang mahihirap (We do not only aim to provide roofs over the heads of our fellow Filipinos. But we want decent, safe, and strong housing that will give dignity to our poor beneficiaries),” Acuzar said.
Apart from the MOU signing with the city, the DHSUD also signed similar agreements with the municipality of Nabunturan, Digos City, Mati City, and the Island Garden City of Samal.
The 4PH is considered the flagship program of the Marcos administration through Executive No. 34 to address homelessness in the country.
