City allocates P20 million for 2024 IRONMAN 70.3

THE CITY Administration Office (CAO) said the local government allocated P20 million to be used in preparation for the 2024 Ironman 70.3, the triathlon race to be held on Aug. 11.

During a press forum on June 25, Atty. Tristan Dwight Domingo, CAO assistant city administrator, said the city also partnered with Sta. Cruz and Sunrise Events Inc. in ensuring the peace and security of the race.

“We have a very good relationship with the Ironman group, perhaps a testament to this is that it’s the fourth year of having it (in Davao City). Apart from being cautious with our preparations, we are also very excited,” Domingo said.

He said responders and the security cluster currently undergo their training and simulation exercises “until everyone is in good shape for the event.”

“Moving forward, we’ll probably have a simulation for the bike course as well as the run course,” he added.

Domingo also extended his apologies for the public’s inconvenience as the city will be totally closing the road segment utilized for the 21.1-km run starting from Bago Aplaya coastal road to Sta. Cruz (Seaoil Gas Station).

“Right now, we are doing our best to look for an alternate road, as we don’t have one yet. Basically, all vehicles going to Davao City or Sta. Cruz and Digos, that would be a challenge for them during that day,” he said.

He also assured the public that roads are temporarily closed from 3 a.m. until 1 p.m. only.

“We hope that the public wouldn’t mind too much the inconveniences that the event might bring as the success of the event not just benefits the city government but also its business sector,” he added.

The 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 Davao will feature a brand-new course with the introduction of the new Davao City Coastal Road, setting a new challenge for athletes as they swim 1.9-km parallel to the coast, cycle 90 km towards the Macarthur Highway and back to the coastal road for the 21.1-km run to the finish line.
