Churchgoers’ safety

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) would intensify patrols and security to guarantee the safety of churchgoers in 29 churches for the traditional Simbang Gabi (dawn mass) beginning Dec. 16.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon, said, “We have a lot of activities being secured together with Task Force Davao, and other law enforcement agencies.”

She said additional PNP officers would augment the force in place for high-traffic areas, particularly those part of the Pasko Fiesta activities. But their primary focus is to ensure the nine-day dawn masses will be secure.

She also urged residents to be vigilant and cooperate with the authorities even if they might be inconvenienced by the stricter checks and security measures, particularly at checkpoints.

Moreover, Tuazon said they also tapped the barangay force multipliers who will monitor known troublemakers and youth gang members, who may cause a ruckus this Christmas. She said they would be discouraged from going to church for reasons other than attending the dawn mass.

Meanwhile, Angel Sumagaysay, chief of Davao City’s Public Safety and Security Office, said they already coordinated with the DCPO to implement the “one entrance, one exit” policy for churchgoers.
